Frisket Paintings
An experiment in making typographic form using sumi ink, a dry paintbrush, and frisket. I cut out the numbers "1" and "0" out of a piece of frisket, and made this series of paintings using the same piece of frisket over and over. Lots of variation came out of this very simple process. For example, when I painted the ink over the frisket, it would resist and form beads on the plastic surface. This allowed me to peel the frisket up, turn it over, and press it into the paper as a monoprint to produce a polka dot effect that is more controlled than splattering ink.
