Shibori
Shibori is the Japanese technique of resist dyeing. Cloth is manipulated by clamping, folding, sewing, and wrapping before it is dyed. The cloth records the shape and pressure of the three-dimensional form that was applied to it when it is returned to two-dimensional form. The resulting pieces are visible memories of temperature, friction, dye, and other processes that the cloth experienced.
