A Material Process

Abstract
This paper argues that by choosing materials carefully and entrusting them with a certain degree of decision-making power, a designer can constrain her process, which in turn opens up a much deeper investigation into iteration and experimentation. Using my process and work as examples, I write about ways I employ materials and the reasons I choose them. To test my point of view outside of myself and my own process, I carried out an experiment with thirteen of my colleagues. This paper explains the experiment in more detail and analyzes the results.
