Soon
Pam Durban, 1997
Soon follows the Crawford family over three generations, marked by the changing ownership of three specific houses. Over the course of the family’s history, squabbles and reunions, the characters experience again and again “the rise and the downfall of hope, one complete revolution of the wheel that [turns] the world.” This is a story about life coming full circle, repeating itself generation after generation in ways that are both different and the same. In the end, “what has been lived will be handed on.” I combined a cut paper silhouette of a house with a photograph of a flock of birds exiting a tree to symbolize the permanence of family lineage that is interconnected with the impermanence of individual existence.
